spoke too soon

spoke too soon...

five in the morning. i received an sms from my boss saying there was a fiesta in tondo today. that basically meant i had work to accomplish. so i did what any normal employee would do--ignore it. besides, i didn't have enough time to prepare. suppliers had to be informed. people had to be mobilized. resources were unavailable. all that usually requires at least three days to ensure smooth execution (and enough room to breathe). i wanted to punch the inconsiderate, thick-faced bastard who presented this information last minute. because in truth, i could have done this swiftly and easily. if there's at least one thing i've learned from my penthouse training, it's that the word "problem" should not exist in my vocabulary. and i knew i was only making excuses to avoid having to work (again) on a sunday.

no problems. only solutions.

twelve noon. phone was ringing. it was the boss. i quickly debated in my head on whether i should pick up. i did anyway. he wanted us to get things rolling in the afternoon. who was i to say, no?

four hours later: six hundred families. twenty workers. six volunteers. three hours. two barangays. mission accomplished. and another sunday afternoon gets written in the journals as spent on-the-job.
